GreenCLUB is the corporate blog of Green Engineering , an italian EPC company specialising in the realisation of industrial plants for ethanol production. We've created this place to talk about experiences around the world of ethanol production (spirits, extra neutral alcohol, bioethanol , fuel ethanol,)and in general about biofuels and renewable energies . But this space is something more... . Here we would like to share our work, our on site activities, during plants design, contruction and start-up . We would like to tell you about products of our Customers, about traditions and cultures behind spirits coming from different countries.. . BEYLERBEYi RAKI

In the last posts we have talked about Raki, so this evening i want to show you an other Raki produced by one of our Customer in Turkey. It is the Beylerbeyi Raki, produced by Sarper Beverage company .

The main feature of the Beylerbeyi Raki is that it is produced by a triple distillation process. "Triple distilled" means that the Suma (the alcohol obtained from grapes fermented mash) is re-distilled in the special Alambics together with aniseeds three times, in order to charge all the flavours of the aniseeds . The result is a very clear alcohol enriched with all the flavours of aniseeds. Also the catalytic effects of copper (material used for the realization of Alambics for the production of Raki) is maximized through this triple distillation process .
Pure copper is very important for this kind of products, and so we supplied to Sarper alambics made of pure copper, heated through an external jacket in order to avoid any contamination of alcohol by steam that should result in undesirable odours.

the production of RAKI

In the last post we've talked about some Raki produced by two Customers of our company.
But what is Raki ? Raki is the most popular alcoholic spirit produced in Turkey , in some way is the "national spirit" of this Country , as well as Grappa is for Italy, or Cognac is for France .

Raki is produced starting from dry grapes. The fermented mash of dry grapes is then distilled, producing an alcohol named "Suma" that is the basis for the preparation of Raki. Suma is than redistilled in traditionals copper alambics, with a special design realised for this kind of production. Then aniseeds is added for giving to this spirit a particular flavour .

Raki can be also produced using fresh grapes, instead of dry grapes. Although dry grapes is the most traditional and ancient way of preparing Raki, now fresh grapes are becoming very appreciated, especially bu young people.
Moreover Raki can be prepared using 100% Suma or blending the Suma with a percentage up to 35% of Extra Neutral Alcohol , coming from other feedstocks.

Different tastes can be obtained using dry or fresh grapes and various blending of Suma and Extra Neutral Alcohol

Raki shopping in Izmir (Turkey)

These days we were in Izmir (Turkey) to meet some investors. We 've taken the chance to do a little trip on the city , and of cours to meet also some of the staff of the ELDA Factory (ELDA is a private company for which we realised a factory that produces Raki - the Turkish national spirit) .

It has been a pleasure to see that all the Raki that you can find in shops , or in the menu of the best restaurants of the city, come from plants realised by us.

The following picture shows a shop in the Izmir citycentre exposing the Raki produced by the MEY Group . Mey Group is a private group born with the privatization of TEKEL , the Turkish statal institute of tobacco and alcohol. Our company realizes all the distillation plants belonged to TEKEL . Today the MEY Group has the main share of the Raki market in Turkey .

The following photo shows the Raki display rack of MEY Group at Istanbul International Airport. Raki by MEY is the only to be sold on airport's duty free .

Of course it has been a pleasure for me to buy some Raki from MEY . In this occasion i purchased 1 bottle of Tekirdag (a very special Raki) and 2 bottle of Yeni Raki (the most traditional one) .

At home i had also a bottle of the very good EFE Raki green label (A Raki produced using fresh grape), coming from the ELDA factory in Izmir . And this evening i'm finishing my dinner at home with a glass of this very fine Raki... (in the photo Luca, me and EFE Raki at my home this evening) unfortunately the bottle is almost empty, but this will be a perfect excuse to come back shortly to Izmir and buy some other EFE Raki bottles from our friends of ELDA .

Green Engineering è una Società Italiana di Ingegneria specializzata nella progettazione e costruzione di impianti industriali per la produzione di etanolo. Il marchio Green Engineering nasce nel Settembre 1999 dalla volontà di tre Manager e del loro team di tecnici.
G.E. progetta e realizza impianti industriali sulla base di proprio know-how nel campo della produzione di alcool e del trattamento delle acque industriali.
